District 18 Group Records Pizza Party

District 18 Group Records Pizza Party this Sunday, March 25th at 1:00 PM. For the address of the event, please email Chris at d18dcm@gmail.com.

 It’s easy to help – all you will need to do is:

  1. Show up.
  2. Bring a cell phone
  3. T.J. will have information sheets with all the District 18 A.A. group contact information
  4. Grab a bunch of these sheets
  5. Call the contact listed on the group record sheet, confirm the meeting still meets at the listed time/place, and verify that the person listed is the correct contact for the meeting.

Last time the District did this, it only took a couple hours to go through all the information. Hope to see you all there!

March District Meeting | 2012 General Service Conference Agenda Items

The March District meeting was dedicated entirely to the General Service Conference Agenda Items. You can read the minutes for the meeting here. You can read our DCM’s notes/powerpoint on the agenda items here. The DCM and Alt-DCM reported their notes from the West Central Regional Conference, and the GSRs asked questions and took notes so that they could bring this information back to their groups.

The Delegate’s Workshop is April 14th in Mankato, MN (see upcoming event page). Each GSR should bring her or his group’s conscience on the agenda items to this workshop. There the Delegate will gather information from the groups before she attends the General Service Conference in NYC.

Important note re: Restructuring of Grapevine

All,
This is a recent motion from the General Service Board.  The motion is to come up with a plan to restructure the Grapevine.  This will be voted on at the upcoming 2012 panel 62 General Service Conference.  If approved, this plan will be built and presented to the 63rd GSC panel (in 2013) for approval. This is not listed on our current GSC agenda items or the existing background material.

Thanks to Rich H. from Area 20 (serving on the Grapevine committee) for forwarding this background material to me.  Please review – and share your group’s conscience at the Delegate’s workshop in April.  This is important stuff and affects the future of the Grapevine.

February District News

February 2012 District Meeting

Highlights:

  • District 18 will be sponsoring lunch for the GSRs and Alt-GSRs that attend the next Area Assembly. Just look for Chris G or Rita at the lunch break to find out where.
  • District 18 welcomes Sonya as the new treasurer, and the District thanks outgoing treasurer, Denise K, for her valued service.
  • Our Delegate, Angie G., has sent her report from the 2011 General Service Conference. Read that report here.

  • The Preliminary Agenda Items for the 2012 General Service Conference (GSC) have been issued. You can read them here.
  • PLEASE NOTE: The March District 18 meeting will be devoted to the background information on the 2012 GSC Agenda items. GSRs will leave the March meeting prepared to carry this information back to their groups. GSRs, please be prepared to bring your group’s conscience back to the April District meeting and, if you’re able, to the Delegate’s Workshop in Mankato, MN on April 14th (See Upcoming Events page for more specific details on the Delegate’s Workshop).
Opportunities for Service:
  • District 18 is researching and discussing ways to connect with alcoholics in the local Somali population. Please contact Chris G at at d18dcm@gmail.com or inform your GSR of your ideas and suggestions.
  • Intergroup is in need of volunteers to do 12th step calls. Please contact them to get on the list. Email: info@aaminneapolis.org
  • The District will be hosting a Groups Record party sometime in March. At this meeting, we will go through the known group contacts to verify active groups in the district. Keep an eye open for more info. There will be pizza!
  • There are several open District positions: D18 Treatment Facilities Chair, D18 Group Outreach Chair, D18 Special Needs/Remote Communities Chair
  • Four volunteers are needed for the 2012 Women’s Expo booth on February 26th. To volunteer, please contact Elaine R. via Chris G at d18dcm@gmail.com.

  • There are two new AA meetings in District 18.
    • Squad 76 Big Book Study | Date/time coming | Location: 2218 1st Ave S in MPLS.
    • Up the Creek Big Book Study | Thursdays, 7-8pm | Closed, mixed meeting (for more info on AA meetings, see pg22 of this pamphlet from aa.org) | Location: Holy Cross Lutheran Church 1720 East Minnehaha Parkway MPLS 55407
  • It was recently discovered that there are several differences between stories in the 3rd edition and 4th edition big book. An effort is being made to add an agenda item to the General Service Conference next year to reconcile these differences. HERE is a file that highlights the differences in question. Please contact your GSR or District 18′s District Committee Member (DCM) , Chris G, with any additional questions or comments so that they may carry your voice to our Area Delegate, Angie.

    • Upcoming Vote: An area archives proposal to move the area archives to a larger, state-of-the art facility.
    • Upcoming Vote: Funding a PSI in the City Pages for Minneapolis Intergroup.

November District News

This Saturday, November 12th, District 18 is hosting its annual workshop. This year’s is “What am I part of? And where is this Fourth Dimension anyway?”

Speaker, Bob H., will be tying the theme and panel topics together through his own experience. Bob has flown in all the way from Montana to share his experience, strength and hope with us this weekend, and we are very happy to have him.

One piece of news to note is that our Area Chair, Lisa G, came to speak with the District about the upcoming Area Assembly (10/22) at which the 2012 Area Budget will be voted on. These are some of the items discussed at our district meeting: the Pink Can Plan, the Area has budgeted for all of the officers and committee chairs to attend the West Central Regional Forum, as well as new computer and sound equipment for the Group Records and outreach committee.
